Around the world, many Trade Unions have achieved remarkable successes in representing workers’ interests. Some are still in phases of struggle, others are already consolidated and have gained enough strength to now embark on new campaigns.
The project “Trade Unions in Transformation” by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) intends to enrich the conversation about union revitalization. By focusing on labour’s power resources and telling stories of Trade Union success, the project offers a space to learn from and be inspired from positive experiences of struggles of comrades around the globe.
To explore opportunities for collaboration in supporting unions to expand their power in the rapidly changing economies in the region, the Singapore-based FES Office for Regional Cooperation in Asia is hosting a conference “Trade Unions in Transformation: Innovative Change-making Union-style” from 21 to 22 March.
How do unions innovate and use their power resources? How are unions crossing the divide between the formal and informal sector (by organizing workers in non-standard forms of employment)? And how are unions shaping up to face the digital economy?
Meeting at the conference to address these questions are members of Global Union Federations, Trade Unions and academic and research organisations from Southeast Asia. At the gathering, they will share their individual experiences and discuss mutual challenges in Trade Union action.
Follow FES in Asia on Facebook and FES Connect on Twitter where updates before and during the conference days will be shared under #UnionsTransform, the official project hashtag for "Trade Unions in Transformation". ###
