"Making trade work for workers" is the theme of a panel discussion to be held in Brussels on 28 June 2017, organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) in cooperation with Bernd Lange, chair of the Committee on International Trade of the European Parliament.

Sustainable development chapters have become an integral part of the European Union’s free trade agreements. While they feature as a prominent element of a value-based approach to trade policy, they face criticism for their perceived lack of enforceability and consequently their effectiveness. Join our experts as they discuss lessons learned, the current situation and future of this central aspect of the EU’s free trade agreements.

Watch here the recording of the debate in the European Parliament that was live streamed at 13-15:00 GMT and follow on twitter under #missinglinks and #CLSPlus. As speakers, we are very pleased to announce:

Cecilia Malmström, European Commissioner for Trade

Bernd Lange, MEP, Chairman of the Committee on International Trade

The panel discussion is part of the regional project Core Labour Standards Plus (CLS+), a regional project launched by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Asia in 2016 that aims to promote and develop binding labour and social standards in trade agreements and preference systems.
