Share the Care: Towards A Gender Just Care Sector

Unpaid care and domestic work have traditionally been predominantly performed by women in Asia. Parental leave is one way to facilitate the sharing of childcare responsibility between parents. Across Asia, policies and practices regarding paternity leave vary widely, ranging from no formal recognition of paternity leave to short periods of leave of male workers who meet specific requirements. The Working Group on Care advocates for the sharing of caregiving responsibilities and  calls for inclusive and comprehensive paternity leave to challenge and break gender stereotypes.
